Dear President Obama,

I can’t help but notice that the bee population is in trouble, and you have the power to do something about it.

You won’t try to distract me with political-ese and direct me to one of your aides, will you? Oh good! You know this issue is important.

In layman’s terms, without the bees, we’re toast. (Unless, that is, we want to eat GMO corn and crackers laden with neonicotinoids. Neonicotinoids = not good for our health).

So please tell your friends, colleagues, and fellow politicians who are playing golf with the big GMO players at Monsanto, Bayer Cropscience, DuPont, etc., that their poisoning of crops, seeds, and soils must STOP.

It really is that simple. We can make it without the politics, but not without the birds and the bees!

Thanks so much for listening, and I do look forward to seeing you do something about this.

All the best,
Navjit

If, like me, you’re concerned about colony collapse disorder (the decline in the bee populations), and have little faith in governments and leaders, you can make moves on your own – no political debate necessary. Grow some tasty, nectar-rich flowers for bees to come and feast in your gardens, balconies and window boxes.

If each person grew flowers, we could turn this thing around. We still have soil and seeds. Water and sunshine. And, most importantly, our hearts. We do not have to stand idly by as our food supplies dwindle and flowers become a thing of the past.

I love being a flower child and tree hugger. So come and join the revolution.

One more thing: this is from National Geographic’s chart of dwindling food varieties. If you’re a food lover and you think it’s about time we took steps to save our food diversity, share this!
